Boston Dental Schools & Programs Graduate and post-graduate level students seek dental education here for good reasons. Boston University's Goldman School of Dental Medicine has a vast array of academic departments, including General Dentistry, Molecular & Cell Biology, Endodontics, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry and several others. Dentistry students working towards clinical advancement can review the dental programs at Tufts University's School of Dental Medicine which are more patient-focused, as opposed to the research-focused programs available in the Boston area. Students working towards a DMD degree can review Tufts' four-year curriculum, or a two-year dental international program is also available. There is also a curriculum for many postgraduate dental specialties. One other institution in Boston for students to consider, with a reputation that precedes even the mention of its name, is the Harvard University School of Dental Medicine. The school is organized into six departments, all with additional disciplines for advanced students to pursue. Dentistry student who wish to major in dental hygiene can earn an associate degree from Mount Ida College in suburban Newton, which can be easily parlayed into a bachelor degree. Cape Cod Community College in West Barnstable, just south of Boston, has a dental hygiene program, as does Middlesex Community College with campuses located in Bedford and Lowell. Besides their two-year associate of science degree in dental hygiene, Middlesex also offers an associate degree in dental assisting.

Dental students and professionals in Boston and Eastern Massachusetts have cause to be encouraged by employment projection figures issued by the Massachusetts Division of Career Services The figures represent statewide employment because geographically, the greater Boston region is a huge metropolis that occupies half of a very small state. In the decade from 2000 to 2010, the number of new jobs for dentists, not including specialists, is expected to be 120, bringing the total number of dentists statewide to 3,180 for an increase of 4%. Dental hygienists and dental assistants will both see a 31% increase in new jobs created, with hygienists gaining 1,830 positions for a total of 7,810 jobs by 2010 and assistants gaining 1,890 positions for a total of 8,060 jobs by 2010.

Almost everyone realizes that Boston is a great city with a very special place in American history.
